Eric Jones: Hey, everybody. Welcome to this month's Insight Beyond Payroll. My name's Eric Jones. This is my funny partner, Chilah Weller.

Chilah Weller: Hey, everyone.

Eric Jones: We are two of the owners of Workforce PayHub. This month, we're going to talk about bridging that gap between payroll and HR through technology. At many small organizations, payroll and HR are done by the same person, generally. As you start to grow upmarket and you go to mid and large-sized organizations, those are actually two separate people, generally in two separate departments, reporting to two separate people.

Chilah Weller: Take, for instance, the hiring process. HR is most concerned with gathering all those onboarding documents and making sure that they're completed accurately and timely. Payroll, on the other hand, is going to be most concerned about making sure that they are receiving the pay rates and base compensation, so we're able to create a trigger or an alert from HR to payroll to let them know when someone is hired.

Eric Jones: And we know what's important to employees, don't we?

Chilah Weller: Always base comp.

Eric Jones: Always base comp. Next thing we want to talk about, benefits enrollment. You've got HR, they're focused on getting that employee through open enrollment and getting them enrolled with those carriers. Payroll, on the other hand, doesn't really care about that. They want the deduction on their pay statement, and they want it done timely and accurately. How do we get that information? We get that through a single database.

Chilah Weller: Even performance management can allow for talking between both HR and payroll. HR is going to complete the performance review, make sure it's signed, make sure all the data is complete, and then upon completion and finalization, it's going to trigger an alert and it'll go to payroll to automatically update a base comp or even give a bonus.

Eric Jones: This just sounds so easy. How does this happen? You take two separate departments, two separate sets of technology, you merge them into one single database, such as the Workforce PayHub system. If this is something that interests you, please don't hesitate to contact us at (517) 759-4026, or you can email us at info@workforcepayhub.com.
